Eliminating Static in Vertical Form Fill Packaging

The vertical form fill seal process is notoriously prone to issues caused by static charge on the film. The static electricity attracts the product which causes bad sealing on the top and bottom of the bags. This is a common problem with light and dusty products although can also be an issue with liquids.

When Fraser were approached by a coffee packaging factory they advised that the static charge must be neutralised before the film reaches the filling tube and again just below the end of the tube but above the horizontal sealer for optimal effect. Positioning 1250S static eliminator bars 20mm away from the film provided the required static neutralisation.

The factory were very pleased with the outcome and have found that since the installation output has risen while reject and line downtime has fallen significantly.
